AM NICK PRAISES WWF'S EARTH HOUR
NATIONAL Assembly Member for
Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, has praised this year's WWF's Earth Hour initiative,
which took place on Saturday 28th March.
At 8.30pm individuals, businesses
and public authorities in over 930 cities across 80 countries turned off their
lights for one hour in a graphic show of support for decisive action on climate
change.
Here in Wales, iconic landmarks, including
the Millennium Stadium, joined in, as well as 70% of Welsh Local Authorities,
including Monmouthshire County Council.
Speaking today Nick said: "WWF's
Earth Hour was a simple way for people to show their support for strong action
on climate change.
"2009 is a crucial year for climate change with world leaders meeting in Copenhagen in December to agree a new international climate deal.
"Last year's Earth Hour saw more than 50 million people in over 35 countries turn off their lights for one hour. This year even more countries signed up in what was a dramatic hour of action on climate change."
