AM JOINS CLAMOUR FOR EXTRA INVESTMENT IN CARDIAC SERVICES
NATIONAL Assembly Member for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, has added his voice to the call for increased provision for cardiac rehabilitation services across Wales.
Commenting on the issue today Nick said: "I am very concerned that a recent report shows that only just over a third of patients suffering a heart attack in Wales are accessing rehabilitation.
"This is shocking, and particularly so, when evidence shows that cardiac rehabilitation can reduce the chance of dying prematurely of heart disease by 26%. It also helps people return to a normal way of life more quickly following a cardiac event, and helps patients manage this long term condition in a cost effective way.
"It is very important at times of reorganisation and restructuring of health services that funding for cardiac rehabilitation is given priority, and is not overlooked."
