MP URGES QUILTERS TO HONOUR INJURED SERVICEMEN
MONMOUTH MP David Davies is urging quilters across the constituency to gather their needles and thread and join in a scheme to honour local servicemen injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Inspired by veterans groups in the USA, Monmouth resident Jean Morris has set up a group to make Quilts of Valour as a show of appreciation for UK military personnel.
The first quilt donations were recently presented to six men from the First Battalion The Rifles at Beachley Barracks, Chepstow, and work is currently underway to make quilts for a further five injured soldiers.
"This is an extremely worthy cause which can harness the underlying public support for the work done by our forces," said Mr Davies.
"All of the quilts are handmade and personalised and have so far been met with an enthusiastic response.
"The success of the scheme relies on individuals donating their time, expertise and fabrics and I would urge anyone with a few hours to spare to pick up a needle and thread and get involved."
Anyone wishing to help with donations or materials or are interested in joining the quilting club can contact Jean on 01600 772340.
