MP URGES PM TO PUBLISH FIGURES ON
WOUNDED SOLDIERS
MONMOUTH MP David Davies has urged the Prime Minister to
publish information about members of the Armed Forces wounded in Afghanistan.
Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Davies asked
Gordon Brown whether he agreed that the Ministry of Defence should publish
regular figures showing the number of soldiers who have lost limbs or suffered
other life-changing injuries in Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister said he would be happy to give "as much
information as possible" but refused to respond to Mr Davies' request to let
him have the relevant figures by the end of the week.
"This information is of course essential to forecasting and
delivering the resources required by the NHS to ensure that, when wounded men
and women leave rehabilitation at Headley
Court, they have the same high quality of treatment that they received there
when they become veterans and move into the care of the NHS," said Mr Davies.
"I fail to understand why the Prime Minister is so reluctant
to release these figures and I will continue to press both him and the Chief of
Defence Staff for answers".
