MP DISAPPOINTED AT CLOSURE OF SURGERY
DAVID Davies MP was very disappointed to learn that the
Skenfrith Branch Surgery has been closed with effect from 31st
December 2008.
This service, which was available at Skenfrith Parish Hall
once a week for an hour, has been closed down due to GP contracts requiring
core standards such as Health and Safety and Lone Working Policy.
David Davies said; "In rural areas such as this, where there
are many elderly people who cannot access public transport easily, this surgery
was a lifeline. There is no bus from
Skenfrith to Monmouth which makes it even harder for people to get to see their
GP.
"Add to this the need for appointments and treatments that
may require many visits, for some a trip to their doctor will become prohibitive.
"I have written to Mrs Thomas, Interim Chief Executive of
Monmouthshire Local Health Board on this issue and hope that the response I
receive will be positive.
"I'm very sorry this surgery has been closed and believe it
will be to great detriment to the community, who, I'm sure will miss it very
much."
