finals of the first Welsh libraries competition
A student at Usk Community Education Centre is a winner in
the regional stage of the first Welsh libraries competition - Express Yourself!
Anna Hitch is currently enrolled on a creative writing
course and her work entitled, "The Librarian" has won her a place in the
national finals.
Organisations and individuals from around Wales participated
in the competition, resulting in over 1600 entries. 18 finalists were chosen,
including Anna, to go forward to the national finals.
Finalists will attend a special award ceremony at the Senedd
in Cardiff on 25th
February. The event will be hosted by Heritage Minister, Alun Ffred Jones, and
finalists will have the chance to meet actress, writer and library champion,
Ruth Jones.
Anna's tutor, Mair De-Gare Pitt, said:
"Anna has always shown considerable flair and imagination,
and the whole group was thrilled to hear of her success."
Ann Jones, Prinicipal Librarian at Monmouthshire County
Council, commented:
"We are delighted with the response and the overall quality
of entries in the competition. There really is a lot of talent in
Monmouthshire."
A national exhibition showcasing the finalists' work will
tour venues across Wales, starting at the Senedd in Cardiff and then heading to
Swansea.
