Try the South West's first triathlon

People of all fitness levels are being asked to take part in the first South West Triathlon on Sunday 12th July at Caldicot Leisure Centre.

Anyone can enter, from complete novices to club and pro triathletes, as well as charity and fun competitors.

The races that will take place are:

• Fun triathlon 200 metre swim - 21 kilometre cycle - 2.5 kilometre run

• Sprint triathlon 400 metre swim - 21 kilometre cycle - 5 kilometre run

• Relay triathlon 400 metre swim - 21 kilometre cycle - 5 kilometre run (one competitor for each leg)

All entrants receive the free official race T-shirt and there are prizes for top three male and female in both the fun and sprint competitions as well as age group prizes in the Sprint Triathlon and general spot prizes.

Sally Turner, Monmouthshire County Council's Leisure Centres Manager, explained:

"It will be a great day and we're really pleased to be able to host the event.

"The course is good for spectators and the main transition area and finish line are at the back of the leisure centre so all the action can be seen there.

"The race starts from the 20 metre heated indoor pool in the leisure centre, followed by a one lap cycle course which heads out towards the town of Chepstow, in the Monmouthshire countryside, before returning to Caldicot for the final discipline.

"The run is around the leisure centre playing fields, the course is two laps for the fun triathlon and four laps for the sprint and relay triathlon."

For the Triathlon competitors will need swimming goggles, a swimming costume or trunks, a roadworthy bicycle, cycle helmet & running shoes or trainers.
