Raglan residents
say a big YES to Cold Calling Control scheme
An overwhelming 98% of residents who responded to a
survey in Raglan have given the thumbs up to a County Council scheme to control
cold callers.
Monmouthshire County Council's Trading Standards Service
introduced a Cold Calling Zone in the village six months ago and over 60% of
people said they had received no calls from uninvited sales persons since the
zone was created. 80% reported that the number of uninvited callers had
decreased.
The results also indicated that most residents now felt
safer in their homes and less likely to become a victim of a distraction
burglary or rogue trader incident.
One resident told council officers: "Excellent scheme,
feeling much better and safer at home", while a 97 year old resident said: ‘the
scheme is excellent. I'm very grateful".
Phil Glanville, Trading Standards Manager at Monmouthshire
County Council said:
"The results of this survey demonstrate just how effective
Cold Calling Control Zones can be.
"It is particularly
pleasing to see that the number of unwanted and uninvited sales persons calling
has declined and that most residents feel safer at home."
