Pub fined for filthy kitchen
A Tintern pub was prosecuted this week
(8th September) for food hygiene offences.
The case against the Rose and Crown public
house, Monmouth Road
in Tintern, was heard at Abergavenny Magistrates Court.
Mr David Stafford, of the Rose and Crown,
pleaded guilty to three offences under the Food Hygiene (Wales)
Regulations 2006.
Mr Stafford was fined a total of £1200, plus
£1412 costs.
Ioan Gealy, prosecuting for Monmouthshire
County Council, told the court that during a routine inspection on 21st July
2009, two council officers found that the kitchen and various items of
equipment, were in a filthy condition and the premises were not adequately pest
proofed.
Eric Saxon, Cabinet Member for environment
health, said:
"Our Environmental Health Officers work with
businesses to help them meet legal requirements and the food produce safe food.
"However, if businesses fail to implement
the advice given by officers, customer's safety may be put at risk. The
recent inquiry into the 2005 outbreak of E Coli food poisoning in South Wales highlighted the need for appropriate and
effective food safety management."
If businesses require any advice on food
safety legislation they should contact their local environmental health
department.
Food businesses in Monmouthshire should
