Monmouthshire's
Local Service Board leads the way on Cutting Carbon
In a first for Wales,
Monmouthshire's Local Service Board (LSB) has agreed to sign up to the 10:10
Campaign.
The 10:10 campaign was conceived
by the team behind climate blockbuster The Age of Stupid, and is run by a team
of national partner organisations. 10:10 requires people and organisations who sign up to cut
their carbon emissions by 10% before the end of 2010.
The LSB will be joining names
such as Delia Smith, Colin Firth, Vivienne Westwood, B&Q and Tottenham
Hotspur FC on the list of those who have committed to 10:10.
The LSB is a group that
brings together the leaders of local public sector and voluntary organisations.
They ensure that these bodies work together to ensure public services remain
effective and citizen focused. LSB member and Leader of Monmouthshire
County Council, Cllr Peter Fox, is leading the initiative. He said:
"World leaders are gathering in
Copenhagen this week to thrash out an agreement on carbon emissions. But we all
have a responsibility to join the fight against climate change. This is why we
have taken the decision to join the 10:10 campaign. I would urge other
organisations and individuals to also take this pledge."
Monmouthshire's LSB is the
first one in Wales to sign up to the pledge, with each organisation on the LSB
committing to look energy use in their own buildings and activities and making
their own 10% reduction.
