Monmouthshire foodie competes for 'Britain's Best Dish'
The Branch Secretary of UNISON's
Monmouthshire branch will be hitting our TV screens next week, eager to have produced ‘Britain's Best Dish'.
Bill King will be appearing on the ITV show which invites talented amateur chefs to serve up meals and show that their starter, main meal or pudding is the best in the Britain.
He is a passionate supporter of
Monmouthshire's local produce and decided to enter his signature starter in the competition to show off the food available in the county.
Bill hopes to impress judges Jilly Goolden, Ed Baines and John Burton Race.
He said:
"I can't give you the exact details of the
dish but I will say that it uses a particularly delicious fennel salami from
Abergavenny's Trealy Farm Charcuterie - an award winning ingredient and my
secret weapon.
"The dish is modern Welsh, building on our
culinary Welsh-Italian heritage."
"I genuinely believe that we have some
really great produce in this region and I'm pleased that I can show it off on
national television."
Bill was also unable to say how far he had
got in the contest but said he was pleased by his achievements.
Bill will be on the show broadcast on
Thursday October 8th on ITV at 5pm. If he wins his heat he will appear the
following day in Friday's regional final.
