Monmouthshire County Council Reviewing Services at Mardy
Park
Monmouthshire County Council has confirmed that it is
reviewing the services delivered from Mardy Park Resource Centre in the north
of Abergavenny. Mardy Park provides
residential and a range of other social care support to older people. The
review will make sure that services remain focused on the health and social
care needs of current and future service users. There are no proposals to close
the residential home to people who already live there.
Cllr Brian Hood, Monmouthshire County Council's Executive
Member for Adult Services, said:
"We are always working hard to improve the services we
deliver to local people. In the current financial climate it is also more
important than ever that we use our resources wisely to deliver value for
money."
He added:
"People are living longer and social services have to
think about working in different ways to meet people's needs with the money we
have available. We need to make sure
that people can get support when they need it to help them keep their
independence. This often means services
have more of a short-term outcome focus, so we work with people when they most
need it. This sort of intervention can stop people having to go into hospital
or help them regain mobility quicker after a fall."
Monmouthshire's social services and NHS staff are
starting to work more closely together, so that services can be tailored to
people's own needs and circumstances. Many
of the people who use the services at Mardy Park have already benefitted from
its links with the NHS. This review
presents an opportunity to build on this to improve the experience and quality
of life of older people in the county.
A number of older people are long term residents at Mardy
Park.
Although the review has yet to reach its conclusion it is
important to stress that there are no plans to change these arrangements. We are planning to provide residential care
for these people at Mardy Park for many years to come.
