Meet the Producers at
Monmouth Tourist Information Centre
Visitors to Monmouth Tourist Information
Centre this Bank Holiday weekend will get a
better taste of Monmouthshire than usual.
A Local Producer Day is being held on Saturday
29th August which will let visitors meet some of the food producers
and craftspeople who help to create the ‘sense of place' which makes the area
so special.
The five exhibitors will be talking to
visitors about how their products are made and offering delicious samples of
Monmouthshire hospitality. There will be plenty of opportunities to buy and
take home as souvenirs.
Ancre Hill Vineyard is one of the five
exhibitors attending the event. Despite being a relatively new enterprise
the company has already wowed judges of the English & Welsh Wine of the
Year Competition, winning a bronze medal for its first vintage.
Established producer Springfield Cider was
the winner of several classes at the 2007 Welsh National Cider & Perry
Festival and a gold award winner at the 2008 Great Taste Awards.
Monmouth favourites Wigmore's Bakery and Wye
Valley Apiaries will also be talking to visitors and offering samples during
the day.
And if all that food and drink is too much
then visitors can take a look at the beautiful glass jewellery of Alchemy Glass
by Susie Nagle. Susie's creations are fired in a kiln at 820 degrees. The
specific conditions of each firing mean that no two items of glass are ever the
same, ensuring that each and every piece is entirely unique.
The Local Producer Day is open from
11am-3pm, although the Tourist Information Centre is open as usual from 9.30am.
For any enquiries about the event, or about hosting similar events at the
centre, telephone 01600 713899 or email monmouth.tic@monmouthshire.gov.uk.
