MCC asks older residents to share stories

Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) is asking older people who live in the County to get in touch and tell them what life is really like.

Members of the Adult Select Committee are launching a fact-finding exercise and want to hear real life stories. The Committee is looking at the services available to older people and want to suggest improvements based on real experiences.

Chair of the Committee, Councillor Roger Harris explains:

“We want to get out there, and find out for ourselves what you think and what is important to you. We can work with other agencies and partners to try and provide a better service to the people of Monmouthshire”.

Vice Chair, Cllr Jacqui Sullivan is eager for residents to get involved:

“We need to get a good understanding of the services available to older people, and maybe more importantly, services lacking.  We want to make this easy for residents to contribute, so we will arrange informal meetings, visit village halls, day centres and residential homes to hear people’s views.”

Hazel Ilett, Monmouthshire’s Scrutiny Co-ordinator adds:

“Hopefully this exercise will reveal the real issues that older people in our communities face on a daily basis and enable Councillors to make recommendations that could actually improve people’s lives.”

The first meeting will be held on Tuesday 24th February, 10am - 11.30pm at Chepstow Senior Citizens Centre, Cormeilles Square, Chepstow. All are welcome.
