Housing organisations join to create better service
4th March 2009
Residents and tenants in Monmouthshire
will receive a better service, thanks to an agreement signed this week
(03.03.09) between Monmouthshire's three housing associations and Monmouthshire County Council.
The organisations (Melin Homes, Charter Housing, Monmouthshire Housing Association and MCC) met today to formally agree to work closely
together to make sure that housing services are better coordinate and are
focussed on tackling local priorities such as preventing homelessness and
safeguarding children.
Councillor Brian Hood, MCC's cabinet member
for housing services, said:
"We are very lucky that we have three
registered social landlords that will work together with us to help tenants get
the best service we can give. We will be able to share our knowledge and
information and residents will find it simpler to find social housing.
"This confirms the way the four of us work
now to improve the lives of the tenants and those who wish to be housed.
There are a lot of people who were born and bred here in Monmouthshire and wish
to remain close to their families so our close working can help these very
people."
Ian Bakewell, Head
of Housing at MCC, said:
"I've gained a lot of personal satisfaction
from seeing this agreement being signed. The services provided by the
housing associations extend significantly beyond bricks and mortar and impact
on people's lives in many different ways.
The
document we are signing is a practical tool that will help to support many of
the issues such as domestic violence that people face. It will evolve to
ensure our housing services increasingly have a bigger impact on wider
priorities.
