Great
first week for MCC's new Chief Executive
It's been a great first week
for Monmouthshire County Council's (MCC) new Chief Executive, Paul Matthews.
"I've hit the ground running
and have had a warm welcome from everyone I've met. There are still a lot of
people I want to talk to and lots to do but I'm really happy with my
introduction to the authority so far."
Paul joins Monmouthshire
from Torfaen County Borough Council where he was the Deputy Chief Executive and
Strategic Director of Communities. His responsibilities included leading on
housing, community safety, regeneration and equalities strategies.
With 20 years service in
local government, Paul's background was initially in the Education field having
held several senior posts including Deputy Director of Education at Torfaen. He
is strongly committed to change and improvement in public services. He retains
a particular passion for education.
Paul is excited about the
challenges that lie ahead:
"It's been a long three
months since getting the job of Chief Executive but I'm here now and really
excited to be so. I can't wait to get started. I know I'm joining a really good
Council and will be doing my best over the years ahead to help build on all of
the good work that is already going on."
Paul, 41, is father of two
young boys and lives in Cwmbran.
