Grab an environmental
grant
Groups and schools that work on projects that benefit their communities could be eligible for a grant of up to £1000.
Monmouthshire's Community Environmental Grants are funded with money from Monmouthshire County Council's Community Economic Development Scheme (CEDS) and contributions from the Countryside Council for Wales.
There are four different types of grant:
-
Environment and Countryside Grants - fund
projects that help people to enjoy and understand the countryside.
-
Community Pride Grants - help local communities
celebrate what is special about their locality and foster pride in their
local area.
-
Schools Sustainable Development Grants - enable
schools to improve their sustainability
-
Biodiversity Grants - enhance important
habitats, such as Local Wildlife Sites and increase the numbers of
important species.
Colette Mooney, Monmouthshire County
Council's Sustainable Communities Officer, said:
"These grants have helped many
community groups take practical steps to look after and enhance their local
environment.
"It's great that so many people are actively
involved in working together to make Monmouthshire a better place to live, work
and visit.
"This really is sustainable development in
action."
Last year 49 projects received funding
through this grants scheme including:
"The project's
been great. We've been able to establish regular forest School sessions
and we've developed a woodland site and improved the school site with the
equipment purchased and with volunteer help."
"The new notice
board has provided the opportunity for the Community Council to promote its
activities and publicise the work the Community Council is undertaking and
connecting with the area's residents."
"The project was
successful in bringing families together. It raised young people's
awareness of growing food and where it comes from. It really broke
intergenerational barriers down."
"The project has
enabled conservation grazing and traditional management meadow. It an
exemplary environmental tool for children involved in the project and those
living nearby"
