Full diary ahead for Council Chairman
A busy but exciting first
month in office lies ahead for Monmouthshire County Council's newly elected
Chairman, Councillor Peter Clarke.
On 10th June,
Councillor Clarke will formally open Abergavenny's Brewery Yard Scheme, a duty
he shares with Jocelyn Davies, AM, the Welsh Assembly's Deputy Minister for
Housing and Regeneration. In addition,
he will officiate at the opening of Monmouth Chapel on Saturday, 26th
June. Monmouth Chapel was in a very poor
condition but has recently been converted by the Council to a state of the art
genealogy centre.
Councillor Clarke's chosen
charity for his year in office is Help for Heroes so he will be especially
delighted to witness soldiers from the Royal Welsh Regiment exercising their
freedom of the Borough of Torfaen on 5th June. He attends as an honoured guest and will
observe a march past through Pontypool before
the Regiment receives the Freedom Scroll.
Projects for young people
feature strongly in Councillor Clarke's diary this month. He is due to attend the opening of a skate
park in Monmouth, a road safety event and the annual rally of the county's
Young Farmers in Tregare near Raglan as well as hand out certificates to pupils
who have made a special effort to walk to school.
Councillor Clarke has also
been invited to the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisation's (GAVO)
Volunteer Awards Evening where he will present prizes.
As well as these civic
ceremonies, Councillor Clark will carry out his normal council duties,
attending meetings and committees while tending to the concerns of his
constituents.
