Battery recycling comes to Monmouthshire
Monmouthshire
County Council (MCC) now has recycling banks for spent household batteries at
their main household waste Recycling Centres in Abergavenny, Monmouth, Usk and
Caerwent. In addition, following the implementation of the European Battery
Directive, most of the larger stores selling small batteries now accept spent
batteries for recycling.
All types of
household batteries are accepted at the council sites including those from
mobile phones, watches, power tools, lap-tops etc.
The council
have also announced that residents can now recycle their used aluminium foil in
the purple bag collection (up until recently this type of waste caused problems
at the sorting facility).
Councillor
Eric Saxon, Cabinet Member for waste said:
"We want to
encourage residents to recycle as much of their waste as possible. We are constantly
striving to increase the materials that can be recycled in the county and now
we can add batteries to the long list. Remember, if you can't recharge them,
recycle them!"
