Planting Tenders
In 2007 the Town Council organised
a planting competition, the competition was judged on the basis of
sustainability, year round interest, identity / theme, impact, appropriateness
for the area, and minimal maintenance. The
winning entry scored well on all counts but the judges were particularly
impressed by the choice of Henry V as the theme using plants such as Phormium
Tenax to represent the warrior king, Iris for the swordsmen protecting the king
and also because the flower is similar to the Fleur de lis and refers to the
link with France, Purple Sage for the wisdom of kings, and Daffodils for
courage.
Planting of the Henry V theme started last winter and most of the planting has been completed.
Monmouth should have a truly unique and sustainable planting scheme of which the town can be truly proud for many years to come.
Monmouth Town Council is inviting interested parties to submit a tender for the planting, maintenance and watering of the planters and raised beds that are situated in and around town. This will be a one year contract to include weeding, dead heading, fertilising, clearance of rubbish from the site, general maintenance and watering when necessary. There will be additional ground preparation in some areas and some seasonal planting/replanting to complete the scheme. A water bowser is available for use when watering which can be fitted to a tow bar.
The cost of the water and of the plants needed to complete the scheme will be met by the Town Council within an agreed budget.
The invitation is open to individuals or groups, voluntary, private or commercial. If you are interested in finding out more detail than please contact Sarah Robson the Town Clerk on 01600 715662 or email townclerk@monmouth.gov.uk.
The deadline for applications is midday Friday 27th February 2009.
