National Rogue Trader Day

"Gwent Police and Trading Standards will be carrying out a day of co-ordinated action to target the perpetrators of doorstep crime on Wednesday 20th May.

A team of officers will patrol the county throughout the day responding to any reports of individuals canvassing door to door offering services such as gardening, roofing work, as well as paving and tarmacing.

Whilst many traders can be legitimate, some unscrupulous individuals target people in their home, carrying out shoddy work and failing to give consumers information about their rights to a statutory cooling off period. In some instances such individuals are also linked to distraction burglaries.

Monmouthshire Trading Standards have requested that Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators phone through any reports of individuals calling door to door, or acting suspiciously to Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or Monmouthshire Trading Standards on 01633 644102."
