Monmouth Cricket Club - A CENTURY from Ian Morgan

A CENTURY from Ian Morgan could not save Monmouth Seconds from a five-wicket defeat at Chaddesley Corbett Seconds in the Worcestershire County League on Bank Holiday Monday.

Morgan hit 108 and was supported by Martin Newell (21), Tej Saran (20), Jon Despontin (19 not out) and Alim Hansraj (15) in taking Monmouth to 223-7.

Despite a good return from Tej Saran (4-57 from 15 overs), Monmouth's bowlers struggled and Chaddesley sealed victory with five overs to spare.

Monmouth Seconds, sponsored by the Jewel Balti, had reduced Chaddesley to 108-4 in the 28^th over

But a match-winning 82-run fifth-wicket-stand in 12 overs between D Hember (64) and N Grange (40 not out) took the host to the brink of victory.

There were some good fielding displays from Tom Burns, Idris Leonard and James Taylor but Monmouth will be disappointed with their second 2^nd XI Division 2 defeat.

The match balls were sponsored by Richard Isaac dental surgeon and club president John Wigmore.

Monmouth Seconds host Bewdley Seconds in the league on Saturday and then, on Sunday, they entertain neighbouring Tintern in a Twenty20 friendly, starting at 2pm.
