SEA CADETS FOR
MONMOUTH
Training
Ship Ross the Ross-on-Wye Unit of the Sea Cadet Corps is expanding to offer the
young people of MONMOUTH, the opportunity to experience "SERIOUS FUN" based on
the traditions and discipline of the Royal Navy.
The Unit has been renamed ROSS AND MONMOUTH SEA CADETS
Boys and
girls aged between 10yrs and 18yrs can participate in many Waterborne
Activities which include: Kayaking, Canoeing, Power Boating, Sailing, Rowing, which
obtain National Qualifications from the Royal Yachting Association and the
British Canoe Union, they can also go to Sea either on the Corps own Offshore
Fleet the Tall Ship TS ROYALIST, the Power Craft TS JOHN JERWOOD, and soon a
brand new ship will join the fleet, or when opportunities allow Ships of the
Royal Navy including our affiliated ship HMS LEDBURY.
On land
Cadets can train in Marine Engineering, Communications, Cooking, Seamanship,
Ceremonial Drill, Weapon Training, Small & Full Bore Rifle Shooting.
The Unit
has a strong Junior Sea Cadet Section which already has a number of Cadets who
live in Monmouth and are aged between 10yrs-12yrs, at the age of 12yrs they
join the Senior Section and have the privilege of wearing the uniform of the
Royal Navy.
Part of the
Cadets training is Citizenship and working within the Community, it is the
intention of the Commanding Officer and her team to involve the Cadets from
Monmouth in their local community at every opportunity.
The Ross
& Monmouth Unit parade at their Headquarters in Station Approach, Ashburton
Industrial Estate, Ross-on-Wye, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, all waterborne
training throughout the summer season is carried out at Drummonds Dub by kind
permission of PGL Adventure.
